The Storm

That night, nature had its own festival.

A storm arrived, slow and dark at first, then violent and full of rage. The lightning wasn’t far away… it was here, falling right around me. The sound was so loud it felt like the sky was cracking open.

I was alone in my room when the electricity went out. The bed started shaking; the windows rattled. Every flash of lightning illuminated the walls for a split second, then silence, then boom, another crash, closer this time.

I found a small flashlight and placed it beside me. My teachers were stuck in the kitchen, hiding under tables. I received a single message. ‘’Don’t move. Stay inside. Close everything and wait.”

My heart was beating so fast I could hear it. I wanted to look outside, to see it, to watch the storm in its raw power… but I couldn’t. It was too dangerous. So I just sat there, wrapped in a blanket, counting seconds between lightning and thunder, texting Ben on live (so basically every small thought), somhow it made me feel more comforted.

When it finally stopped, silence filled the room. I felt relief, almost disbelief. Outside some chaos was built, leaving all the leaves from the palm trees on the ground, a lot of coconouts fall, dust,… but at the same time everything was safe, I was safe… but I’ll never forget that feeling.
