Welcome Ceremony
Today I had the welcome ceremony for the yoga course. These were some of the main elements we used and their meanings:
🔴 Red point (on the forehead)
It’s made from turmeric, lemon juice and slaked lime. It improves blood circulation in the third eye. Turmeric is also considered naturally aphrodisiac—that’s why in India, before getting married, they have a turmeric ceremony where turmeric is applied all over the body. It’s also a way of awakening awareness of the third eye. In return, it is said to bring beauty—so it also symbolizes beauty.
Sacred bracelet (Molli)
It’s made of pure cotton in the colors of fire—orange, red, and yellow—symbolizing the first three chakras. For girls it’s tied on the left wrist, for boys on the right. Married people wear it on the right wrist.
- On the left side it empowers the feminine energy.
- On the right side it empowers the masculine energy.
In the past, too much feminine energy was seen as unbalanced, so when people got married, the right side (masculine) was emphasized to bring balance.
Rice
Rice is the main staple food in India. Where it grows, there is abundance. Offering rice represents abundance and the wish that abundance is shared with each other.
Flower necklace
In India, flowers are offered to the gods, and guests are treated like gods. That’s why flower garlands are given—to honor and welcome.
